Behind Body Phonics
Thank you for wanting to learn more about Body Phonics! This work is so meaningful to me.
I have tried to create a conceptual curriculum that acts as preventative medicine for the mind, body and soul. That promotes the pursuit of self-knowledge and the idea of everyone’s individual body as their own walking laboratory. That prioritizes accessibility and reclamation of joy, and respects individuality of experience. That reminds we are as old and wise as we have ever been, and as young and brazen as we will ever be again.

I grew up dancing, it always helped me regulate, and find community. By high school I was choreographing and teaching; I knew I loved sharing the joy of movement with people. I also had an opportunity during my very first anatomy and physiology class in 2010 to see the Body Worlds Exhibit, which launched a humbled awe for the vastness and complexity of our inner mechanisms. I went on to a four year college and focused on psychology, before changing course and attending the community college nearer to my home to study nursing. I first achieved my C.N.A. and worked with geriatric populations at the same time I was teaching physical education to elementary and pre-school kids with a franchise called Jumpbunch. Once I began nursing school, I was also dancing ballet full time with a local studio. That year I developed multiple chronic conditions, physical and mental, that would set my trajectory for the next decade.

I found a therapist I loved (only after many frustrated efforts and failed attempts) and opened myself up to help. I rediscovered yoga, my missing piece, and integrated as many of its philosophies into my lifestyle and my pedagogy as I could think to. I got my 250hr ytt certification (only on my 3rd go round, I kept panicking and leaving halfway through), quickly followed by a 75 hr aerial yoga certification later the same year. Another year later, in 2024, I left the remote job I had worked over the pandemic and began to put Body Phonics together in earnest.
